REFEREE INFORMATION
OVERVIEW
Hello Referees,
The fall season for Union County Youth Soccer (UCYS) will be starting next month. I am contacting all of you because you either reffed this previous season or have expressed interest in reffing to one of our league's commissioners, to one of our current refs, or to me directly. I have also included the association commissioners in this email so it can be directly forwarded on to anyone else expressing interest in reffing. This email includes most of the information you will need pertaining to the upcoming season, but please contact me if you have any questions or concerns that are not addressed.
UCYS regular season games will begin the weekend of September 6 and conclude the weekend of November 1. The End of Season Tournament is scheduled for November 8-9. We will be having three referee training classes prior to the start of the season. You only need to attend one of the classes, however, those who do not attend will not be scheduled to ref this season. The three class dates will be Thursday, August 21; Saturday, August 23; and Monday, August 25. The weeknight classes will be from 6:30pm to 9:00pm at Edna Love Park in Indian Trail. The Saturday class will be from 9:30am to 12:00pm, also at Edna Love. The times are bolded because the Saturday time is different than last season. All three classes will all be in the boardroom, which is in the gray and maroon building in the middle of the park. The best place to park would be along the fence of the Babe Ruth field (the large baseball field on your left when you pull into the first driveway). The class is required for all referees, regardless of experience level. The purpose of this class is for all of us to meet, go over policies and procedures, and to ensure that all our referees understand the laws of the game, as well as their roles and responsibilities, according to UCYS, NCYSA and FIFA. This class will also help develop more consistency across UCYS referees and matches. The cost of the class will be $50 for new referees and $25 for returning refs. Payment is expected on the day of class. No checks or cards will be accepted.
All referees will be required to wear a full uniform (neon-yellow ref jersey, black shorts or pants, black socks) when reffing, as in the past. If you do not have a neon-yellow ref jersey, please purchase it prior to the start of the season. I have included links to websites at which they are sold for your convenience. The required accessories include a stopwatch, a ref wallet with red and yellow cards, (2) whistles, a coin for flipping, and a writing utensil.
My expectations of our referees this season, and every season, are to know the laws of the game and the rule differences between age groups; be impartial at all times as match officials; present themselves in a professional manner at all times, in both appearance and demeanor; and communicate openly with me throughout the season on all matters pertaining to UCYS.
My expectations of our coaches and parents are to let the players play, let the coaches coach, and let the officials officiate. Improper conduct will be handled appropriately and violators of UCYS conduct policies will be removed. The expectations of the league are that all parties (coaches, spectators, referees, and league officials) model positive behavior for the players of UCYS.
Please let me know at your earliest convenience if you will be reffing for UCYS this season and which training class you will be attending. If you have any other questions or concerns, please let me know. I look forward to working with you this season. Thank you.
